In 2007 Chief Justice Moyer created a Supreme Court task force on commercial dockets. Commercial dockets are mainly used to resolve business disputes. The job of the task force was to establish and evaluate a pilot project where commercial dockets were established in certain Ohio counties.
In 2008 the task force established a set of rules that established the foundation for the commercial dockets and by March 2009 the commercial dockets were in operation. Their goal was to lessen the burden on the court system by more efficiently resolving commercial disputes and using fewer court resources. On February 26, 2013 the Supreme Court of Ohio permanently adopted rules for the commercial docket which went into effect at the beginning of July, 2013.
